Much has been said about fuel efficiency in the automotive industry in the past few years, prompting many manufacturers to increase their commitment to hybrid and electric vehicles, including Honda. For various reasons, not all drivers are ready to embrace an electrified ride. For those drivers, their quest is to find the most fuel-efficient vehicle to get them from point A to point B while also offering the latest safety and technology the industry offers.

The 2024 Honda Accord
The 2024 Honda Accord offers two trim levels. The LX is the base trim, while the EX is the top-tier gas-powered option. The current Accord is in its 11th generation, having debuted in the United States in 1976. Over the years, the Accord has offered many drivers, from those commuting to work and back to younger families to college students headed to Louisiana Tech University, the ability to own a fuel-efficient, safe, and comfortable vehicle option. Highlights for each trim are detailed below.
The 2024 Honda Accord LX
The LX gives you a 192-horsepower turbocharged engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Essentially, this transmission type allows your engine to work at its peak potential, providing maximum power and a smoother ride. These two things lead to consistent acceleration and better performance overall, regardless of whether you’re headed into the city or down the block for groceries. In addition, CVTs are thought to improve fuel efficiency up to 10% more than other automatic transmissions.
You’ll also enjoy convenience features like a self-opening truck, full LED headlights, rear seats that fold down to access the trunk area, and automatic climate control. Additionally, the 2024 Honda Accord LX gives you a seamless connection to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as USB charging ports and a Remote Engine Start. The LX is also equipped with some of the best safety innovations in the industry, including a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, and more.
The 2024 Honda Accord EX
The CVT transmission and engine used in the EX are the same as those in the LX. You’ll also note that the Full LED Headlights and self-opening trunk are the same. However, there are a few perks you’ll enjoy with this trim level, such as a Power Driver Seat, Heated Front Seats, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, and a One-Touch Power Moonroof. Plus, you’ll have access to your favorite apps with Bluetooth and connections to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all displayed on your seven-inch color touchscreen.
We can help you decipher which Accord trim level is best for you, as well as explain how each driver assistance safety feature works in both trims. In addition, you’ll find the same fuel efficiency ratings in the EX and the LX, with each giving you a combined 32 MPG.[a]

The 2024 Honda Civic
The 2024 Honda Civic is slightly smaller than the Accord. However, it provides more options in terms of trims and style. For instance, you can choose from four trim levels when selecting the Honda Civic sedan, or you can supercharge your drive by opting for the Honda Civic Si. Another great option is the Civic Hatchback. The fuel efficiency for each is similar, with the regular sedan option offering fewer trips to the gas station, with 40 MPG on this highway and 31 MPG in the city.[b] Meanwhile, the Civic Si has a fuel efficiency rating of 37 MPG on the highway and 27 MPG in the city.[c] Finally, the Civic Hatchback lands in the middle of the pack, with 38 MPG on the highway and 30 MPG in the city.[d]
The 2024 Honda Civic Sedan
The Honda Civic sedan is available in four trim levels, ranging from the LX base to the top-tiered Touring option. Each gives you a dynamic combination of technology, driver assist safety features, and generous leg and headroom despite being the smallest sedan in the Honda lineup. In addition to confidence and connectivity during the drive, you’ll also like the available Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control System found on the top two trim levels, as well as the standard Push Button Start across all trims.
Also, you’ll notice that the Civic has the same seven-inch color touchscreen as the Accord in all trims except for the Touring level, which has a 9-inch screen. Finally, the LX and Sport trims have a 4-cylinder engine, offering 158 hp, while the top two trim levels have a turbocharged In-Line 4-cylinder engine that gives you 180 hp.
The 2024 Honda Civic Si
The Honda Civic Si has a six-speed manual transmission and a 200-horsepower, 1.5L turbocharged engine, a Bose Premium Sound System, wireless connection to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a One-Touch Power Moonroof. It is a great option if you enjoy a sportier sedan while still offering excellent fuel efficiency. The Civic Si also gives you many of the same conveniences as the other sedan options, such as thoughtfully placed charging ports, beverage holders, storage bins, and driver assistance safety features that keep you and your passengers safe during the drive.
The 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback
For many drivers, a hatchback option fits their needs. This is especially true if you and your family enjoy fishing or exploring the trails at Lake D’Arbonne State Park. You can easily pack the fishing poles and backpacks in the back of this Civic, which gives you 24.5 cu.ft. of cargo with the rear seat standing upright. Or, if you’re a DIYer and need more space, the second row folds flat. Like the other Honda Civic options, there is a wide range of safety and connectivity features that boost your enjoyment during the drive, regardless of which four trim levels you choose. The Honda Civic is a smaller sedan that packs a powerful punch. It’s come a long way since its introduction in 1972, but its dedication to providing a safe, convenient, and fuel-efficient option for the everyday driver remains the same.
