2023 marks a milestone for the Honda Accord. This year’s model is all-new, representing the eleventh generation in the history of this iconic midsize sedan. The first Accord was introduced by Honda in time for the 1977 model year. That first Accord model set the standard for the segment, offering a safe, economical sedan with a roomy interior for up to five passengers. The Accord proved so popular that it has been in continuous production by Honda for over 46 years. The 2023 Honda Accord represents the next step in the history of this vehicle. If you go looking for a Honda Accord for sale, you are going to find that Honda is making a push toward hybrid powertrains. This will reduce the sedan’s emissions while giving you better fuel economy.
While the exterior of the Accord has seen a slightly sleeker profile and more aggressive grille, the biggest changes for the eleventh generation have come inside the vehicle. Where Honda offered five trims with conventional gas engines on the Accord, now that has been reduced to two. At the same time, four trims are still available on the Accord with a hybrid engine. In all, you will get to choose between six different models of the 2023 Honda Accord when you browse our great selection here at Ryan Honda. We proudly serve the drivers here in Louisiana by offering the full lineup of new and used Hondas, including the 2023 Honda Accord.
A Shift in Trims
Drivers can choose between six trim levels on the 2023 Honda Accord. The key change is that the entry-level models feature a conventional gas engine, while the higher trim levels get a hybrid engine. The Accord LX remains the base model, joined by a new model called the Accord EX. These feature a 1.5-liter Turbo I-4 gas engine. The key difference between the two models is comfort and convenience features like dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and side view mirrors, and a power moonroof.
The 2023 Accord will continue to have four trims with a hybrid engine. The Sport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid remain from the prior generation. However, the Accord Hybrid trim has been replaced by the Sport-L Hybrid. Each of these four trims has an increasing number of features. For example, the Sport Hybrid adds a larger touchscreen to the HondaLink infotainment system, larger 19-inch alloy wheels, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, the EX-L Hybrid has a leather interior, the Sport-L Hybrid adds a spoiler and rear diffuser for improved performance, and the Touring Hybrid gets a wireless phone charger, a head-up display for easier viewing of vehicle information, and a Bose premium sound system.
Two Great Powertrain Options
The major change in the eleventh-generation Honda Accord has happened with the powertrains. The 1.5-liter Turbo I-4 gas engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) has been carried over from the prior generation’s model. This is standard on the Accord LX and EX trims. This engine has a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) configuration, with 16 valves for its four cylinders. It features Variable Timing Control, which automatically adjusts the cylinders depending on driving conditions. This reduces fuel consumption, as well as wear-and-tear on the engine.
It also has an idle-stop feature that automatically shuts off the engine when you are stopped at a light and then restarts it when you ease your foot off the brake pedal. This helps reduce fuel consumption and engine emissions as well. The engine uses direct fuel injection to deliver up to 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. This makes the 2023 Accord with this engine capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds.
Honda has decided to discontinue the 2.0-liter Turbo I-4 engine from the tenth generation. It has also given the hybrid powertrain a bit of a boost. The electric power of the Accord hybrid is provided by an AC electric motor that runs off of a 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. At slower speeds, the electric motor provides most of the vehicle’s propulsion, with the gas engine keeping the battery pack charged through a generator.
The battery pack is also recharged by brake recapture, which uses a portion of the kinetic energy released every time you step on the Accord’s brakes. The combined powertrain gives you 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of 15 lb-ft of torque over the 2022 model. As a result, the 2023 Accord with the hybrid powertrain can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph.
Exceptional Fuel Economy From Both Engine Options
The 2023 Honda Accord is front-wheel drive only, resulting in exceptional fuel economy numbers no matter which model you choose. If you opt for an Accord LX or EX, you should expect 29 MPG in city driving and 37 MPG on the highway. These are impressive numbers for a midsize sedan with a conventional gas engine. The four 2023 Accord models with the hybrid powertrain are also incredibly fuel efficient. Like most hybrids, the Accord gets better fuel economy numbers in local driving, which relies mainly on the electric motor. This is why the Accord hybrid gets an astounding 51 MPG in city driving and an equally incredible 44 MPG in highway driving.
A Spacious and Comfortable Interior With Major Innovations
Honda has always been known for providing exceptional space inside its vehicles. It also has a reputation for space maximization, utilizing every available nook and cranny to put a comfort and convenience feature. This is certainly the case with the 2023 Accord. In fact, the Accord has over 102 cu.ft. of passenger space. This is well apportioned, giving front-row passengers 42.3 inches of legroom and those in the rear seat 40.8 inches. This allows you and up to four passengers to be comfortable no matter where they are seated inside your 2023 Accord.
One of the things that stands out about the Accord’s interior is how there are things for everyone inside the vehicle. There are plenty of beverage holders in the two rows, as well as USB charging ports in the front. Higher trims get two charging ports in the back, as well as a wireless charger on the Touring Hybrid model.
The Accord also features the latest version of the HondaLink infotainment system. The LX and EX models get a 7-inch color touchscreen, while the four Accord hybrid trims have a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, so you can make hands-free calls and texts while streaming your favorite smartphone apps. The four hybrid models have wireless connectivity, so you can still use these features if you leave your charging cables at home. The Accord LX model has a 160-watt audio system with 4 speakers, while the Touring Hybrid gets a 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System. The other trims feature a 180-watt 8-speaker audio system. No matter which model you choose, you and your passengers can enjoy your favorite entertainment inside of the 2023 Accord.
Safety Comes Standard With the Honda Sensing System
Honda has always been committed to passenger safety and has been on the cutting edge of driver assistance technology throughout the history of the Accord. The 2023 Accord continues this trend with the standard suite of Honda Sensing driver-assistance features. For example, a Forward Collision Warning will alert you if the system detects an imminent collision with another vehicle in front of your Accord. It will then use the Collision Mitigation Braking System to automatically engage the emergency brakes. This will either prevent an accident or reduce the damage if a crash is unavoidable.
One major cause of highway accidents is driver distraction. This can lead to a vehicle drifting out of the lane and into another car. The 2023 Accord features Lane Departure Warning, which will alert you if you drift out of the lane without signaling. When this happens, the vehicle will also use the Lane Keeping Assist System, which involves slight steering adjustments to get you back in the lane. This even works at slow speeds as part of the Traffic Jam Assist. Similarly, if the system detects that you are crossing off the road, the Road Departure Mitigation System will work, sending out an alert while using steering adjustments to get you back safely on the highway. There is also a Driver Attention Monitor that will recommend that you take a break if the system senses that you are getting fatigued.
The Honda Sensing system also has other standard features that will make driving the 2023 Accord safer and easier. Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow will adjust the speed when using cruise control if the system detects slower traffic ahead. In addition, the Traffic Sign Recognition System will inform you of the speed limit on the road you are traveling by flashing the current number on the HondaLink screen. Finally, Auto High-Beam Headlights will turn the high beams on when the system detects low light and then turn them off when lighting improves or the system detects another motorist. This will allow you to focus on your driving at night without hassling with the headlights.
